770,023. Draught excluders. BRIGHT, T. J. R. May 5. 1954 [May 19, 1953], No. 14051/53. Class 20(3) In an assembly such as for an automobile, consisting of a hinged door 1, Fig. 1, and a fixed part such as a door pillar 2, the adjacent edges of the door 1 and pillar 2 are formed with oppositely directed parallel flanges and a pair of rubber or other soft and resilient sealing strips are carried by the door 1 and pillar 2 respectively so as to make facial or other interengagement when the doors is closed, the two sealing strips being so positioned between the flanges that they do not project inwardly or outwardly of the door. As shown, identical strips are provided, each having an attachment; portion 5 which enters the larger channels of a series of double channelled clips 7, the smaller channels of which engage inwardly directed flanges 3, 4. The strips have effective sealing portions 6, and lips 10 for overlapping the smaller channels of the clips. In a modification the strips have a thickened attachment portion for entering the channels formed at the edges of the door and pillar respectively, one strip having a projection and the other a recess for interengagement therewith. In a further arrangement strips similar to those shown in Fig. 1 are secured to the corresponding flanges by U-shaped clips, as described in Specification 649,137, which either engage tangs on the flanges or are formed with tangs which bite into the flanges. The strips may be of rubber, sponge rubber, thermo-plastic material, fibre glass or Silastic material. According to the Provisional Specification each securing clip may be formed with a channel of dove-tail form to receive the projection on the strip.
|
