PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily removable and cleanable strainer for circulating cooling water used in a cooling tower. SOLUTION: This strainer attached to the cooling tower for collecting foreign matter mixed in the circulating cooling water is mounted on the side wall or a base plate of a water collecting tank connected and disposed under a lower water tank of the cooling tower without disposing a strainer in a piping route of the cooling tower. Any conical strainer with a handle and of 15 to 20 mesh will do as the strainer for collecting foreign matter mixed in the circulating cooling water. A slurry drain valve is fitted to a pipe communicating with the base plate of the water collecting tank. The foreign matter means dust and various dirts mixed in the circulating cooling water, fallen leaves and containment such as filler fragment in the tower as well. Thus, the strainer can be attached to the existing cooling tower and facilitate removal and cleaning work during the operation so that the operation efficiency of the cooling device can be remarkably improved.
