OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION CATALYST AND METHOD FOR POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFIN USING THE CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new olefin polymerization catalyst for the suspension polymerization (slurry polymerization) and vapor-phase polymerization of olefins, capable of effectively and efficiently producing a powdery polymer having extremely excellent powder properties in extremely high catalytic activity without causing the problems such as the deposition on a reactor during the polymerization and provide an olefin polymerization method using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst is produced by preparing a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization composed of (A) a solid component essentially free from hydroxy group, (B) a soluble compound of a transition metal selected from the elements of the groups 3 to 11 of the periodic table and (C) an activation agent compound reactive with the transition metal compound B to form a metal complex having catalytic activity and carrying out the preliminary polymerization of an olefin on the solid catalyst component. The invention further provides an olefin polymerization method using the catalyst.
