PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently scavenge particulates, and efficiently, continuously burn and remove them. SOLUTION: The objective exhaust emission control method for a diesel engine comprises using the following material: (1) a mixture of a glass fiber or metallic fiber body and a zeolite-based or activated alumina-based adsorbent attached with a catalyst; (2) a mixture of a catalyst-attached glass fiber body and the zeolite-based or activated alumina-based adsorbent attached with the catalyst; (3) a material in which the layers of the glass fiber or metallic fiber body and those of the catalyst-attached zeolite-based or activated alumina-based adsorbent are alternately arranged; or (4) a material in which the catalyst- attached glass fiber body and the catalyst-attached zeolite-based or activated alumina-based adsorbent are alternately arranged.
