PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity of a product by agitation of molten metal in an AC electric furnace for generating the molten metal. SOLUTION: A linear (or circular) molten metal agitating device 4 is closely arranged from an external part on the bottom side of an AC electric furnace tank 1 having a three-phase alternating current electrode for generating the molten metal inside. A polyphase electrode array of the electromagnetic agitating device 4 is driven by being alternately and periodically switched to a normal rotation state and a reverse rotation state by a power source supply means. The mutual time ratio and its period of the normal rotation state and the reverse rotation state are determined by a program by a timing determining means, and periodic switching is performed by the power source supply means.
