PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing structure for a vehicle allowing colliding shock absorption by securing the stable crushing performance of a vehicle body. SOLUTION: A side member 20 extending from the side face of the vehicle body to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body comprises a hollow body portion 26 connected to a floor under R/F 24 and an axial crush member 28 connected to a bumper R/F 22. Axial walls 34, 36 with their normal in the axial direction are integrally formed on the inner wall of the outer periphery of the body portion 26. A plurality of ribs 42 connected to the inner wall of the outer periphery 40 are provided in the axial crush member 28. The axial crush member 28 is inserted into the body portion 26 so that a connection between the outer periphery 40 at the end thereof and the rib 42 and a connection between the ribs 42 abut on the axial walls 34, 36 of the body portion 26.
