PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method of producing a carbonyl compound by oxidizing an alcohol with a hydrogen peroxide. SOLUTION: The production method of a carbonyl compound is characterized by reacting an alcohol represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<1> and R<2> are each the same or different and represents H, an alkyl which may be substituted, an aryl which may be substituted, or an aralkyl which may be substituted. R<1> and R<2> may bond to each other to be part of a ring structure.) with a hydrogen peroxide, in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst obtained by reacting at least one metal compound selected from the group consisting of Ag2 WO4 , CoWO4 , Ag2 MoO4 and CoMoO4 with a hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a sulfuric acid. |
