PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device that accomplishes both a waveguide distance and clear image quality. SOLUTION: This reflection type liquid crystal display device is composed of a light source, a transparent plate-like light transmission body for receiving light emitted from the light source and emitting illuminating light from a lower face, reflection type liquid crystal, a thin film formed on the lower face of the light transmission body, and transparent material filled up between the light transmission body and the reflection type liquid crystal. When the wavelength of a visible light area is defined as λ, the refractive index of the light transmission body is defined as (n), the refractive index of the transparent material filled up between the thin film on the lower face of the light transmission body and the reflection type liquid crystal is defined as nR, (nR<n), and θb is defined as θb=sin<-1> (nR/n), the thin film is a single layer film and is made of nL material whose refractive index is smaller than those of (n) and nR, and the thickness of the thin film is roughly (1/nL)×(λ/2) and also, (1/ nL)×(λ/4)/(cos ((θa+θb)/2)). With this reflection type liquid crystal display, it is possible to accomplish both a waveguide distance and clear image quality. |
