<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a mother material for an optical fiber having a small eccentricity of core. SOLUTION: In an apparatus for manufacturing a mother material 1 for the optical fibers by forming a clad original layer 3 to be turned into a clad of the optical fibers onto a target rod 2 to be turned into a core of the optical fibers, the apparatus which monitores at least a surface position of the clad original layer 3 with cameras 20 and detecting the deflection range of the target rod 2 by processing of the images from the cameras 20. For example, when the detected value of the deflection range of the target rod 2 exceeds the predetermined allowed value, it is impossible to uniformly form the clad original layer 3 on the outer periphery surface of the target rod 2 due to the deflection of the target rod 2, so the deflection of the target rod 2 is improved by taking measures such as adjusting the mounting state of the target rod 2 against an upper supporting means 11.</p> |
