PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tandem catalyst converter which is improved in exhaust emission control performance by tandem arrangement and prevents the press-in defect or damage of a carrier holder in the operation of pressing a plurality of catalyst carriers into a catalyst case via a mat-like carrier holder, and also to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In the sizes of the mating forms 3 and 5 formed at both end edges of mat-like carrier holders 2 and 4 which are pressed into the catalyst case in such a state as to wind the catalyst carrier, the width sizes L1 and L3 of rectangular engaging pieces 3a and 5a positioned at the rear side in a pressing direction are made larger than that sizes L2 and L4 of rectangular engaging pieces 3b and 5b positioned at the front side, respectively. A plurality of catalyst carriers are preferably integrated in a predetermined distance by winding the carrier holders 2 and 4 integrated with a flammable film 6 on the outer periphery of catalyst carriers, and then are pressed into the catalyst case. |
