The oscillating drive unit (10) for driving an oscillating roller of a printing machine in a rotation direction and/or axial direction has a spindle (22) connectable with the roller. The spindle has a left hand thread (18) on a first part and a right hand thread (19) on a second part. The drive unit also incorporates first and second nuts (14,15) which are rotatably fixed in it. The first nut engages the left hand thread and the second nut the right hand thread. The first nut is driven to rotate by a first motor (16) and the second nut by a second motor (17).
