A vulcanizing press especially for joining the ends of rubber belt conveyers, comprises two pressure members adapted to be placed on opposite sides of the belt and perpendicular thereto and to be pressed towards each other by means of screws at the ends of the members, the parts of said pressure members facing the belt constituting heated pressure plates such as electrical heating elements which are so arranged that only the pressure plates and not the remaining parts of the pressure members are directly heated, and each pressure member is shaped as a girder comprising a rigid pressure plate and a clamping strap spaced from the pressure plate, the pressure plate and strap being interconnected by means of longitudinal, comparatively thin ribs having comparatively lower conductivity so that only a small amount of heat can be transmitted from the pressure plate to the strap. In a preferred embodiment, a comparatively thick pressure plate 1 is placed on each side of the belt 7, and tension is effected by plate-shaped clamping straps 2, the pressure plate is fitted with longitudinal ribs 3, which have a low heat conductivity owing to a comparatively small thickness. Sleeves 4 are provided at the ends of the ribs 3 for the screws 5 and heating is effected by elements 6. |
