A computer system, at least part of which is worn by a user for hands-free retrieval and display of information. The system does not rely on a keyboard, but rather has at least one of various activation means all of which are hands-free. The system can be self-contained, or can be used with other systems, other system components and communication apparatus. In one embodiment, the system (102) includes an activating means (122) in communication with a processor contained within a housing (106) for receiving commands from the user. In response to such commands, information from the processor is displayed on a display device (110) worn by the user. Information from an external storage device may be transferred into a storage device in the computer housing (106), with the system being operated hands-free during data transfer. <IMAGE>
