PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material superior in wearing properties and reliability. SOLUTION: This friction material is used for a friction contact part between a vibrator for forming the vibration wave of a vibration wave motor and a contact member which makes friction contact with the vibrator and moves relative to the vibrator through the vibration and is formed by baking a molded object whose main component is fluororesin, wherein a fluororesin powder and a fibrous material are compression molded. The fibrous material is oriented almost vertical with respect to a friction contact surface, and has a specific gravity of 80% or higher with respect to the theoretical specific gravity. The fibrous material is preferably carbon fibers having lengths of 50-350 μm. |
