<p>The airbag unit has a strip or thread-like sensor medium (3) with coding and associated brake device (5) with brake action. The brake device can be a leaf spring pressing the sensing medium against a backing support. The sensing medium can be arranged zig-zag in a supply chamber or wound onto a coil.</p>
