A filtration apparatus (10) has container that houses filtration tank, filtration media cleansing mechanism provided with contaminant expulsion mechanism for expelling contaminants that have been separated from filtration media (51), and mechanism for expelling liquid that has been purified by the media. The filtration apparatus comprises container that houses filtration tank that holds filtration media and liquid to be filtered; filtration media cleansing mechanism having hollow cleansing tank (22) for cleansing the media inside the tank, and cleansing mechanism provided with contaminant expulsion mechanism for expelling the contaminants that have been separated from the media; and mechanism for expelling the liquid that has been purified by the media to the outside of the container. The cleansing tank is a hollow body erected within the filtration tank and having lower opening (22a) that is closed during a filtration operation and opened during a cleansing operation, upper opening (22b) at a level higher than upper surface of the media, and screw conveyor (23) which conveys the media and the liquid which flows into the cleansing tank upward from the lower to the upper opening while scrubbing the media and the liquid. A rotation of the conveyor conveys the media upwards and discharges it as well as the contaminants separated by the scrubbing action from the upper opening into the filtration tank. An Independent claim is also included for a filtration media cleansing apparatus for use with the filtration tank. The media cleansing apparatus is adapted for cleansing the media inside the filtration tank. It has a hollow cleansing tank comprising a hollow body adapted to be located within the filtration tank, and switch mechanism for switching between filtering and cleansing operations. |
