PURPOSE: Provided are cores for using an investment casting process which have improved mechanical properties, which are made in thinner thicknesses than current ceramic cores, and which are resistant to thermal shock during the casting process. CONSTITUTION: A composite core for use in an investment casting process includes a ceramic(120); and a refractory metal(200) attached to the ceramic(120), the refractory metal(200) coated with an oxidation resistant coating, the coated refractory metal element forming a portion of the surface of the composite core. The ceramic element is an oxide ceramic. The refractory metal is selected among at least one wire, at least one sheet, in the ceramic element, or is attached to a surface of the ceramic element. |
