The present invention provides drug delivery compositions that demonstrate enhanced delivery of therapeutic agents to selected organs, in particular to non-CNS organs. The compositions of the invention are useful for the treatment of diseases associated with these organs. In addition, the compositions of the invention reduce the systemic toxicity of the compounds. In certain aspects, the pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound conjugated to p97 or to a fragment thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
