SIGNAL PROCESSING METHOD AND PROCESSOR

A first signal out of two signals for comparing similarity is divided into small regions and then one small region is selected and similarity to the second signal is calculated using a correlation method. The amount of translation, the magnification and the degree of similarity are then determined in a region where the degree of similarity, i.e. the square of a correlation value, is maximized and a value based on the degree of similarity is integrated at a position represented by the amount of translation and magnification. Similar processing is performed for all the small regions and its magnitude is compared with a threshold value at a position where the integrated degree of similarity has a peak value thus evaluating the similarity. Moreover, it is possible to extract small regions which have voted that peak.
