A liquid filter comprises an inner cup-like liquid-receiving member 6, Fig. 4, having a foraminous base 7 and a surface 8a in separable sealing engagement with a surface 5a of an outer member, e.g. a cup 2 spaced therefrom and having a suction outlet 9 in the wall positioned between the foraminous base 7 of the member 6 and the sealing surfaces 5a, 8a. The latter are formed on outwardly-extending radial flanges 5, 8. In a modification the upper face of flange 8 is ground flat and a third cup having a foraminous base is inverted thereover to act as an air filter during drying of the residue. In a still further modification adapted for filtration under pressure the outer member 23, Fig. 6, comprises an annular support for the inner cup 6 and has its upper surface in separable sealing engagement with the lower surface of the cup rim 8 whilst the lower surface of member 23 is in non-sealing abutment with the rim 5 of the filtrate receiving cup 2 and allows egress of air displaced by liquid forced through the foraminous base 7 by pressure air admitted through a cock 21. |
