LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND ITS PRODUCTION METHOD

An OCB liquid crystal display.To quickly and reliably realize the spray−bend transition of a liquid crystal layer(27)of a liquid crystal display,the liquid crystal layer(27)has a first region(27F)where the direction of the pretilt of liquid crystal molecules(32)the alignment of which is controlled by the surface of an alignment film(26)is a first direction(17)and a second region(27S)where the pretilt direction is a second direction(19)different from the first direction.The liquid crystal layer(27F)of the first region exhibits spray alignment while no voltage is applied,and exhibits bend alignment while a voltage is applied.The liquid crystal layer(27S)of the second region serves as a transition nucleus for causing spray−bend transition of the liquid crystal layer(27F)of the first region.The liquid crystal display is preferably used for devices required to have moving picture characteristics,such as portable information devices,notebook personal computers,desktop monitors,and televisions.
