ARRAY WAVEGUIDE DIFFRACTION GRATING TYPE OPTICAL MULTIPLEXER/DEMULTIPLEXER

The elimination of the polarized wave dependency of a transmission center wavelength by waveguide birefringence generated in an array waveguide and sl ab waveguide in an array waveguide diffraction grating type optical multiplexer / branching filter applied for optical communication, particularly, wavelength split multiplexing system. A polarized wave mode converter for the eliminati on converts the TE mode in a waveguide to the TM mode and the TM mode to the TE mode. This conversion function cancels the polarized wave dependency of a transmission center wavelength generated by the waveguide birefringence in t he array waveguide and slab waveguide in front of and behind the polarized wave mode converter.
