A chrome−aluminum spinel refractory material comprises 20−98wt% corundum and 2−80wt%wt chrome iron ore. A binder also added to the said refractory material in an amount 0.5−14wt%, based on total weight of corundum and chrome iron ore. The properties of the resulting refectory material are improved by adding chrome iron ore.
