PURPOSE: A sludge detecting apparatus is provided to automatically detect an amount of sludge stacked in a thickener pond by fixing the sludge detecting apparatus to a truss bar fixed to a lower portion of a turn table. CONSTITUTION: A sludge detecting apparatus includes a fixing section(21), an operating section(22) and a sludge amount indicating section(23). The operating section(22) includes a fixing plate(1) and a body fixing rod(2). The fixing plate(1) is fixed to a truss bar, which is fixed to a lower portion of a turntable installed on an upper portion of a thickener pond. The body fixing rod(2) is horizontally fixed to the fixing plate(1). The fixing plate(1) includes a magnet so that the fixing plate(1) is detachably attached to the truss bar. The operating section(22) is installed on the body fixing rod(2) of the fixing section(21). The operating section(22) includes a bearing shaft(5-1) and a float(7).
