A slurry composition containing a binder, an active material and a liquid medium, characterized in that the binder comprises a polymer (X) having 60 to 95 mole % of a recurring unit derived from acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile and 5 to 30 mole % of a recurring unit derived from at least one monomer selected from among 1−olefins and compounds represented by the general formula (1): CH<sb>2</sb> = CR<sp>1</sp> − COOR<sp>2</sp> (1) wherein R<sp>1 </sp>represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R<sp>2</sp> represents an alkyl group, and the liquid medium can dissolve the polymer X. The slurry composition allows the manufacture of a lithium secondary cell which has enhanced cell capacity and good charge−discharge characteristics and improved in rate characteristics for charging.
