PURPOSE: A control method for a kick-down for an automatic transmission is provided to control a control pattern for improving shifting response property when accelerating suddenly and to control a control pattern for improving shift quality when accelerating slowly. CONSTITUTION: A control method for a kick-down for an automatic transmission includes a tenth stage to decide a condition for a power on kick-down shift during traveling(ST10); a twentieth stage to decide whether a slow speed range and a traveling condition satisfies an intension of a driver(ST20). The thirtieth stage is to control by selecting a control pattern for improving shifting response property or a control pattern for improving shift quality(ST30). After the condition of the tenth stage is satisfied, whether temperature of an engine is higher than temperature of the engine for the kick-down is decided(ST21). Whether a slip is more than a slip for the kick-down is decided(ST22). Whether an average opening degree of a throttle is larger than an average opening degree for the kick-down is decided(ST23). Shifting is controlled by the pattern for improving shift quality when the twentieth stage is not satisfied(ST31). Consequently, acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle are improved.
