PROCESS FOR REDUCING IMMUNOGENIC REACTIONS USING SELECTIVE TH1 CELL BINDING ANTIBODIES

A process for reducing an undesired immune response in a patient comprising administering to said patient an agent, such as an antibody, against a Th-specific antigen in an amount effective to suppress the ability of Th lymphocytes, especially Th1 celles, to promote such reaction is disclosed. Such immune reactions include autoimmune conditions, graft rejection and the like. Also described is a process for identifying, as well as deleting or eliminating, Th1 cells comprising contacting an antibody specific for homologs of Phan TM4 protein with a sample of cells under conditions promoting binding to the protein wherein said binding indicates the presence of Th1 cells.
