The winding shaft (2) of the awning is set in a box (4) having in the area of each guide rail (8) a retaining foot (11) extending at least over part of its length and able to engage with an associated clamping device (12) having two oppositely movable clamping jaws (13, 14). The clamping device can be attached to the box-side end of a guide rail. The box can have a self-supporting lower part (9) containing the foot (11) and on which a cover shaped upper part (10) can be fitted.
