The vehicle roof frame (12) has a roof strut (14) and pillars (16), and upper and lower fastening points (A,B) on the frame. The airbag (10) has a first longitudinal end with an outer fastening point (B'). When the flat airbag is projected towards the roof frame, with the upper airbag edge extending along the strut, the fastening point is located outside the frame and vertically between the two fastening points on the frame. The lower airbag edge extends in an inclined downward direction from the outer fastening point towards the second longitudinal end, and across the pillar. When the airbag is folded and installed, its outer fastening point is connected to the lower fastening point on the frame.
