Formed products based on starch gel, especially soft capsules, are produced by fluidizing available starch with plasticiser, fluidizing network-forming starch with plasticiser, mixing the two fluids to form a dispersion, forming a film from the dispersion and processing the film. A method for the production of formed products based on a starch network, especially soft capsules, involves: (1) feeding available starch (S1) into a process zone; (2) adding first plasticiser(s) (P1); (3) converting S1 into a fluid state (first mixture, M1) by the action of P1; (4) converting network-forming starches (S2) into a second fluid state by the action of second plasticiser(s) with programming of pressure, temperature, shear and plasticiser content; (5) converting this into a third fluid state (F3) by the action of third plasticiser(s) under programmed conditions as above; (6) adding F3 to M1; (7) combining M1 with F3 to give a total mixture (MT) with a fourth fluid state and making a molecular dispersion of the components by suitable mixing; (8) forming a film from this mixture under programmed conditions (as above); (9) converting the film by a rotary die process into formed parts, especially welded, 2-part soft capsules containing filler or active substance; (10) adjusting to the required plasticiser content by conditioning under programmed conditions of temperature, air flow and atmospheric moisture; and (11) forming starch networks from MT by crosslinking, i.e. by co-crystallisation or co-agglomeration between macromolecules, preferably forming a single-phase starch network by preventing phase separation and crosslinking the network-forming macromolecules with one another and with the existing macromolecules after completing at least stages one to seven. An Independent claim is also included for welded, one-part soft capsules obtained by this method from films containing one-phase starch gel, available starch and network-forming starch plus plasticiser and additive (optionally a highly-dispersed rubber-like phase of a special additive), and with any type of structure, especially a Type-A structure and/or an external nucleating agent.
