Method for documentation of a traffic accident location, whereby a measurement device (2) automatically determines and records coordinates and or distances of objects (3-7, 9, 9') involved in the accident. Coordinates and distances are measured relative to a reference point (1, 1') associated with the measurement device. The measurement device uses a laser scanning measurement beam and has a differential global positioning system for determining its geographical location.
