Side vanes are fitted in impeller fashion on the outer side of the wheel rims of the aircraft's undercarriage in such a way that during the aircraft's landing phase the wheels and tires are automatically accelerated to a higher speed. The side vanes themselves can be hinged inwards to reduce air resistance during take-off, for example.
