Process for mechanically selecting precious metals, especially gold, silver and platinum from primitive rock-precious metal mixtures comprises initially forming the primitive rock-precious metal mixtures into a granular substance; mixing with water or slurrying; and guiding the slurries over two electrically spaced contacts (3, 4) in the form of contact strips or rails subjected to an electrical voltage. An electrical signal for the electromotor control of a base opening via an electrical and/or electronic control is produced when the precious metal particles are contacted with the contacts and the base opening is opened for a short time so that the particles can be separated the substances found in the base opening zone and then closed. The separate substance are further treated. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process comprises: a conveying groove (1) or a groove with an intermediate base (5), a base opening which can be opened electro-mechanically, and an electrical contact-signal unit for controlling the base opening using an electrical and/or electronic control unit.
