The stereo microscope contains an objective lens system (2) with an optical system (3) of variable magnification coaxial to the lens system and an optical eyepiece system. Light emanating from an object, and passing through regions to the side of an optical axis of the objective lens system and of the variable magnification lens system, pass through the eyepiece system to the left and right eyes of an observer. The variable magnification system contains at least two reflecting elements (4,5) which change the direction of a light path in the variable magnification system. An optical image alignment system is arranged at the outlet side of the variable magnification optical system.
