The grinding machine (1) is fitted with a mounting for a small wheel (7) the edge of which is coated with a solid combination of lubricant and dielectric. This, under the force applied by a load weight (8), presses against the grinding face (5) of a cup wheel (2) surface grinding a workpiece (4), here a disposable tool tip. The latter acts as the electrode for a pulsed current supply and if it is non-conducting it is coated with a conductive material. The combined action of the lubricant and current pulses is to act on the wheel bonding agent.
