The stanchion (2) for a transporting vehicle has a rectilinear center section (6) upon which are formed protrusions (20a,20b) at least on one side in such a way that a longitudinal side securing of the load units can be achieved. An equal number of protrusions may be formed on and preferably welded to both side surfaces (26) of the center section. The protrusions extend in the main parallel to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The protrusions have a length of preferably less than 30 per cent of the stanchion length. An independent claim is included for a body, and especially tarpaulin-covered body, for transporting vehicles.
