A gaming machine including a display and a game controller, wherein the game controller generates one or more random events on the display. If a predetermined winning event results, the machine awards a prize that is shown on a meter on the display. The controller causes, in addition to incrementing the meter, an award indicating sequence to be generated. The sequence for indicating the prize produces visual and or audio outputs relating to the payment of the prize. The visual and or audio outputs change during payment of the prize with the degree of change being related to the size of the prize.
