Packaging Materials and Packaging Articles are described. They have a structure composed of a substantially linear, regio-regular functionalised hydrocarbon polymer that has C4-C12 hydrocarbon polymer repeating units, wherein each unit has at least one functional group uniformly pendent therefrom. FIG. 1 is a graphical representation of oxygen permeability versus environmental moisture (relative humidity) for monolayer packaging films formed from commercially known oxygen barrier polymers and for a vicinal dihydroxy linear regio-regular hydrocarbon polymer.
