A dithiocarbamate ester of formula ASC(S)B which prevents or minimizes the oxidation of a polyunsaturated fatty acid is used to treat cardiovascular disease or inflammatory disease wherein: A is a physiologically cleavable leading group other than a pharmaceutically acceptable cation; B is NR2R3; R2 and R3 are independently alkyl, (CHOH)n(CH2)nOH, -(CH2)n-CO2R4, hydroxyalkyl, alkenyl, alkyl-CO2H, alkenyl-CO2H, alkynyl-CO2H or aryl optionally substituted by NO2, CH3, t-butyl, CO2H, halo or p-OH or together R2 and R3 can form a bridge; n is 0 to 6 and R4 is alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, and aralkyl.
