PURPOSE: To provide a refiner equipped with both forms of a conical form and a disc form. CONSTITUTION: This refiner A is equipped with a conical type fixed shell SC having a beating part installed on the inside, a ring-shaped fixed disc SD provided on the outer periphery of the conical type fixed shell SC and having the beating part on the inside, a conical type rotor RC mounted on a rotating shaft 7 and having the beating part on the inside and a ring-shaped rotor disc RD installed on the outer periphery of the conical type rotor RC and having the beating part on the inside. The inside of the conical type fixed shell SC is arranged so as to oppose to the inside of the conical type rotor RC and the inside of the fixed disc SD is arrenged so as to oppose to the inside of the rotor disc RD. The refiner A is composed so that a raw material is passed through a gap between the inside of the conical type fixed shell SC and the inside of the conical type rotor RC and a gap between the inside of fixed disc SD and the inside of the rotor disc RD.
