The desk consists of a panel (12) with a front face (12A) designed to receive an article to be viewed, supports (18) that raise one end of the panel, and mechanisms that lift the panel relative to the supports and lock it in the required position. It also has additional mechanisms for moving the panel sideways relative to the supports, and a viewing aid (70) such as a magnifying glass on an articulated arm (22). The height adjusting mechanism has fast and stepped actions and comprises a cable and lever or pulley system; the sideways movement is produced by a slider.
