PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium - sulfur battery having a large capacity and excellent life characteristics, large current discharging characteristics and low temperature characteristics. SOLUTION: The lithium - sulfur battery comprises a positive electrode containing at least one positive electrode active material selected from the group consisting of a sulfur element, Li2 Sn (n>=1), Li2 Sn (n>=1) dissolved in a catholyte, organic sulfur compounds and carbon - sulfur polymers ((C2 Sx )n ; x=2.5 to 50, n>=2); an electrolyte containing a salt having a cation; and a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material selected from the group consisting of a substance capable of reversibly introducing or eliminating a lithium ion, a substance capable of reacting with a lithium ion to reversibly form a lithium-containing compound, lithium metal and lithium alloys. |
