PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile terminal, a method of controlling a pointer and a program thereof capable of applying the cursor moving function as well as the letter inputting function to a numeric keypad without deteriorating the operability by reducing a cursor key and considering the movement of the cursor in the diagonal directions. SOLUTION: The mobile terminal has the numeric keypad with a plurality of operation modes comprising the letter input mode and the cursor moving mode, a display means for displaying a cursor for assisting the input, a mode change control means for controlling the change of the two operation modes of the numeric keypad, and a user switching means for notifying the command from a user to change the operation mode to the mode change control means. The cursor moving mode is the mode in which the pressing of eight keys around the center key of the nine keys disposed in a matrix among the keys in the numeric keypad is made to correspond to the movement of the cursor displayed by the display means in directions-up/down, left/right and four diagonal directions.
