The driving head of an endless jointed band conveyer comprises a main drive shaft 2 journalled in the conveyer frame 4and a gearbox, motor and clutch assembly which is overhung by means of the gear-box output shaft 8 on the main shaft, in which the two shafts are connected together in alignment by coupling flanges or coupling discs 10, 11 on the respective shafts secured together by bolts 9, and means are provided for preventing the gear-box from turning about the axis of the main shaft. The motor 5 is mounted independently on a base 16 secured to the conveyer frame while the gearbox 6 is restrained from movement around the axis of shaft 2 by a double link 17 pivotally connected between it and the base 16, one pivotal connection being adjustable to align the motor and gear-box shafts vertically, while lateral movement of the gear-box in the event of distortion of the frame 4 is allowed by the interposition of a clutch 15 incorporating a flexible coupling. In an alternative form, Fig. 2 (not shown), the motor and clutch assembly is bolted directly to the gear-box, the complete assembly being prevented from turning around shaft 2 by interengaging ledges on the motor and frame 4 allowing lateral movement as above.
