PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device which performs cleaning with constant precision and is easy to maintain and a cleaning method. SOLUTION: The cleaning devices 70A and 70B are used for a printer provided with a photoreceptor drum, a charging device, an exposure device, a developing means, a transfer roller and a backup roller. The cleaning devices 70A and 70B are provided with pressing rollers 71A and 71B which are connected to and separated from cleaning objects 75A and 75B with the photoreceptor drum and the transfer roller as these cleaning objects 75A and 75B; feeding means 78A and 78B for feeding cleaning webs SA and SB between these pressing rollers 71A and 71B and the cleaning objects 75A and 75B; driving means 79A and 79B for connecting and separating the pressing rollers 71A and 71B to/from the cleaning objects 75A and 75B in the state of keeping an interval between the pressing rollers 71A and 71B and the feeding means 78A and 78B.
