PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc very high pressure discharge lamp, of which the sealing part is free from damage even if pressure inside a luminous tube rises. SOLUTION: With the short-arc very high pressure discharge lamp in which a pair of electrodes 3 are arranged inside a luminous tube 1 made of quartz glass, sealing parts 2 made of quartz glass extended toward either side of the luminous tube 1, and mercury is sealed in the luminous tube 1 by 0.15 mg/mm<3> or more, the sealing parts 2 has metal foils 4 buried, on the surface of which, metal powder lump 6 is put in protrusion.
