PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording and reproducing device, in which the protecting function of the protecting film of a magneto-optical recording disk can be permanently maintained. SOLUTION: This device has a lubricant supplier 110 for supplying a lubricant to the magneto-optical recording disk for preventing the magnetic recording protecting film of the magneto-optical recording disk from being worn or damaged due to the contact of a magnetic head slider 104 and the magneto-optical recording disk while the magneto-optical recording disk 101 is rotated at a speed lower than a prescribed speed of rotation. The lubricant supplier can have a nozzle device 107 for spraying or dripping the liquid-state lubricant and an application member 108 for forming a uniform lubricated film on the surface of the magneto-optical recording disk by applying the sprayed or dripped liquid-state lubricant to the magneto-optical recording disk. The application member is an absorbent member sheet having a function for absorbing the liquid-state lubricant and applying it to the disk. Further, the lubricant supplier has a control mechanism for controlling the supply of the lubricant so that a fixed quantity of lubricant can be supplied for a fixed time.
