PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a failure in recording from being caused by a lack of remaining capacity of a storage medium for recording with respect to a video recorder for digital TV broadcasting. SOLUTION: A broadcasting signal received by an antenna 10 is sent to a tuner unit 11, and broadcast data is selected and demodulated and is sent to a demultiplexer 12 to detect only packets of a desired channel. A video data signal and an audio data signal of detected packets are not only stored in a memory 22 but also sent to an NTSC encoder 25 and an audio amplifier 23 and are outputted to a monitor 26 and a speaker 24. In the case that a lack of storage capacity is detected in recording a program in a hard disk 16, a user is informed of this situation via a modem 17 by the control of a CPU 13.
