PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document retrieval system enabling high-speed full text retrieval. SOLUTION: The document retrieval system for receiving a retrieved character string and for retrieving a document file in relation to the retrieved character string from a plurality of document files is indicated. The document retrieval system is characterized in that it is constituted of a computer and a computer readable recording medium, a data base describing correspondence relation between a keyword to be included in the plurality of document files and the plurality of document files is constructed in the recording medium and the data base is constructed by being distributed to a plurality of files by a character code at the head of the keyword.
