摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable low-floating of a slider for thin-film magnetic head. SOLUTION: The slider 20 comprises a substrate 1, a thin-film magnetic head element 22, an insulating portion 25 and a medium counter layer 27. The substrate 1 has a first surface 23 arranged in a position more apart from a recording medium than an air bearing surface 30 to face the recording medium, and a second surface 24 intersecting the first surface 23. The thin-film magnetic head element 22 is arranged close to the second surface 24 of the substrate 1 and closet to the air bearing surface 30. The insulating portion 25 has a surface 26 constituting a part of the air bearing surface 30 to surround the thin-film magnetic head element 22. The medium counter layer 27 has a surface 28 constituting another part of the air bearing surface 30, and set adjacently to the first surface 23 of the substrate 1. Hardness of the substrate 1 is larger than that of the insulating portion 25. When the hardness of the substrate is compared with that of the medium counter layer 27, the hardness of the medium facing layer 27 is closer to that of the insulating portion 25.
